Meetings are normally the third Tuesday of every month from September to May at 7:00 p.m. (7:00 social; 7:30 program) at Central Lutheran Church, 1420 Cordova Street (corner of 15th and Cordova). Mapquest Googlemaps
Bring beads for the Cup O' Beads and the Keg O' Beads. Drawing for the Cup O' Beads occur at the end of every meeting. The Keg O' Beads grows through the year and the winner is drawn at the end of the Annual Meeting in May.
If you have beads or bead-related items you want to recycle or swap or work you'd like to show off, bring them to the Recycle or Show & Tell tables at any meeting. |
September 20, 7:30 p.m. - Carol Jones shares tips and techniques to improve the quality of the photographs of your beadwork. Make a New Friend. Details on the Bead Arts Gala. Don't forget your Summer Challenge--remember if you didn't finish the challenge, the plaque needs to be returned to Sally. Also don't forget to bring 2 beads (one for the Cup o' Beads and one for the Keg. If you have something bead related that needs a new home, you can put it up for adoption on the Recyclables Table. The Show and Share table allows you to crow a bit about yourwork. |
October 18, 7:30 p.m. - Techniques night!
Have you been wanting to learn a bead technique; or maybe you want to refresh your knowledge of a technique you’ve tried before.
Did you get inspired by what you saw at the Bead Arts Gala?
Some Bead Society members will demonstrate and teach a skill they know: Here are the techniques being offered at the October 18
Bead Society Meeting along with the materials you need to bring (or possibly borrow) for each one.
** Bead Crochet: surface to work on (cloth or shallow box); crochet hook, yarn or cotton crochet thread, seed beads
Big eye Needle (less than $1.00 at Alaska Bead Company), needle that opens in the middle
Baby weight yarn or cotton crochet thread (either what they want to make a scarf from or enough to learn the technique)
Crochet hook, size c or steel hook size 0
Beads, size 6 or larger
Each person should know the basics of crocheting, ie chain stitch, single crochet stitch and double crochet stitch.
** St Petersburg Chain Stitch: surface to work on; needle, fireline or nymo, 3 different colors of size 8 beads (half tube of each color)
** 2-needle tubular, even-count peyote easy start: demo the "old way" and then demo the "new, easy way".
Also demo how to "control" your flat peyote to keep the line of peyote straight when you're setting up the first 3 rows
using the "old" way to start. Supplies surface to work on, 2 needles, fireline or nymo thread, delica seed beads (2 colors if you're new to beading)
** Right Angle Weave: surface to lay out beads; needle, thread (nymo or silamide), seed beads
(beginners may want to use size 8 beads-all one color, to see the pattern more easily)

November 15, 7:30 p.m. - Tales of Bead-travels and a discussion of Bead Retreats.

December 20, 7:30 p.m. - Holiday Party Potluck and Gift Exchange. Bring a dish for the potluck and a beaded or bead-related gift to participate in the gift exchange and of course beads for the cup and the keg.
A thought: bring to the gift exchange is something you would be happy to take home again--if you love it, others will too! |
January 17, 7:30 p.m. - Laura Watne, owner of The Bead Shack. will share her experiences with the stonecutters in Rajasthan, India
through pictures and commentary. In addition to cutting stone, the stonecutters also make and string beads. Laura thoroughly
enjoys traveling. meeting people and sharing her experiences. Come to the AK Bead Society meeting, January 17 for a
fun & interesting evening.

April 17, 7:00 p.m. - UFO's and Miscellaneous Makings Swap and Shop. Do you have an overstock of beads and findings you'd like to sell, pass along to or trade to someone? Maybe you have an unfinished object/project, or two, that someone may want to snap up and complete or incorporate into their own project. How about tools and supplies you no longer need? Or a storage container, gadgets, displays or totes someone surely must need....?!?! Gather things up and bring them to this 3rd Annual, growing tradition.
Bring cash or checkbook to pay for items--you could go home with special, new treasures!
Don't forget beads for the cup and the keg! Also, bring those nominations for featured artist and/or charity forms all filled out with supporting documentation as appropriate (forms on the home page).

1. Annual Membership Business Meeting
to elect officers and deal with any other business, including selection of our annual charity.
2. Pot Luck! Bring a dish to share. Drinks,
paper products, plasticware, and (as always) cream puffs will be provided by ABS..
3. Silent Auction!! Bring bead-related item(s) to donate for this year’s silent auction. Handmade items by members are highly sought after and highly contested.
