Bring beads for the Cup O' Beads and the Keg O' Beads. Drawing for the Cup O' Beads occur at the end of every meeting. The Keg O' Beads grows through the year and the winner is drawn at the end of the Annual Meeting in May.

If you have beads or bead-related items you want to recycle or swap or work you'd like to show off, bring them to the Recycle or Show & Tell tables at any meeting.

September 15, 7:30 p.m. - Make a New Friend. Details on the Bead Arts Gala in the new location (Thank you ConocoPhillips!). Larkin Van Horn is our guest speaker with a presentation on bead embroidery. Summer Challenge voting postponed until October.

October 20, 7:30 p.m. - Make a zipper pull. If you have pliers and wire cutters, consider bringing them; if you don't, don't worry, someone will share. Summer Bead Challenge Voting. Remember beads for the cup and the keg!

November 17, 7:30 p.m. - Jo Ellen Vice returns for an update on Precious Metal Clay's new BronzClay and CopperClay! Learn how to use these wonderful elements of jewelry making! Remember beads for the cup and the keg.

December 15, 7:30 p.m. - Holiday Party Potluck and Gift Exchange.

January 19, 7:30 p.m. - Techniques Night. There will be 4 different techniques to try out (or practice), presented by Bead Society gurus who will be demonstrating techniques at four tables. Sort of like speed dating--you  try each technique or stay at one or two "stations."

1) New Styles for Earring Wires. Items to bring if you have them already; chain nose & round nose pliers, and cutters.

2) Bead Crochet "tutorial" & practice. Bring your own crochet hook if you have it. Other materials will be provided.

3) Bezeling a Rivoli. Bring Fireline bead thread & needles; scissors. Beads will be provided.

4) Make an Embelished Valentine (on red felt). Bring scissors, small beads (including seed beads) & buttons, bead thread & needles. If you have embroidery thread and needles bring them, too. Felt & hanging loop provided. Have you already done these? If so, bring a sample to show and tell!

Remember beads for the cup and the keg.

February 16, 7:30 p.m. - Tour the Anchorage Museum of History and Art with Walter VanHorn looking at beadwork in the collection!

March 16, 7:30 p.m . - Rockin' in March! The kind folk from Nature's Jewels will come and talk about rocks of all kinds.

April 20, 7:00 p.m. - UFOs (UnFinished Objects)! The annual swap-n-shop has been refocused to encourage bead-makers, bead stores, and addicted overstocked beaders to bring their wares to show and sell/swap. Think of it as a series of informal mini-trunk shows open to ABS members and their friends. Bring those UnFinished Objects (pieces, parts, components) that need to find their way to the hands of someone who will take them out of the "un" category. This is a good time to rid yourself of extras, overstock, things that can be recycled as well..

May 18, 7:00 p.m. - Annual Membership Meeting. In addition to the business of the Alaska Bead Sociey, this meeting is accompanied by a potluck, Sign up for tables for the October Bead Arts Gala. Bid on amazing finished beadwork brought by members at a silent auction where all the proceeds to to charity. The Summer Bead Challenge will be unveiled. The drawing this month is for the Keg o' Beads which has been growing all year.

October 17-18, 2009 - ConocoPhillips Atrium - Our biggest annual event! This year co-sponsored by ConocoPhillips. Ten percent of all purchae go to the charity chosen by the membership (2009-Wish upon a Northern Star). If you want information on the event, click here.
