13th Annual Bead Arts Gala sponsored by ConocoPhillips

The Alaska Bead Society Bead Arts Gala will be held Saturday and Sunday, October 17 - 18, 2009, in the ConocoPhillips Atrium, located at 700 G Street, downtown. 

This year’s show is the biggest ever, with over 50 bead Alaska Bead Society artists from across Alaska will be presenting an astonishing variety of beads in all their glory.  From exquisite jewelry to beaded items of every description to hand made glass beads – there will be an item for sale to whet the appetite of anyone who visits this show.  One of the hallmarks of the Alaska Bead Society show is not only the amazing variety and quality of beadwork and beaded items, but the opportunity to meet each artist and discuss their work.  No matter how contemporary, Alaskan beaders are part of a distinguished heritage of artists who tell tales and find inspiration through working with beads.  Just ask them and they will tell you; each bead has a story to tell! 

Featured this year will be Alaska Bead Society artist Debra Smith.   Debra creates astonishingly beautiful beadwork, incorporating traditional couching techniques into sculptural one-of-a-kind creations, as well as intricate jewelry.  Her work has been featured in magazines and shows in the Lower 48, as well as being well known and loved by Alaskan beaders!  Please come and experience Debra’s work for yourself – it is a treat you will not want to miss!

In addition to meeting the bead artists, there will be a “Make-It-Take-It” Table where participants can make a beaded item to take home, a Techniques Table, and an Alaska Bead Society Membership table. 

Please join us for this colorful event!  Hours are 10:00am – 6:00pm on Saturday and 12:00pm – 5:00pm on Sunday.  Admission is free.
